FAQs

I’m interested in a new deck, which is better Composite or Wood?

  • A very common question we get asked by new deck customers some are looking for a resurface to their existing deck they know exactly what they want and how they want it well for the rest of us it’s not so simple with different decking options on the market choosing between composite decking and traditional wood can be exhausting let’s break it down from a pro’s point of view

  • Let’s start with composite it’s a product made from tightly glued pieces of plastic and wood formed and stamped to resemble wood planks, we usually source our composite decking from the most popular manufacturer Trex it’s hardy, holds its color for long periods of time without fading and its sleek clean look is what attracts customers to this product, easily power washed and scrubbed Trex and other suppliers provide a wide variety of colors to choose from which is another positive in the composite decking corner, the downsides of composite and I’ll come right out and say it PRICING the pricing compared to a wood deck is often times DOUBLE or even triple the price, why so expensive? well since it’s made of synthetic materials the lifespan is much longer than wood sometimes up to 25 years with minimal maintenance. If you can afford the higher price tag we usually encourage our customers to use composite over wood.

  • Wood decking, the traditional wood decking we use is the most common it’s pressure treated, this means certain chemicals are used to soak the wood that prevent rot, A wood deck can last a very long time with good maintenance, and a great paint or stain ( we use benjamin moores Arbour Coat) while you might have to provide more love and care to your deck over time you’ll end up saving short term because wood decking is much much cheaper than composite and often easier to work with which usually translates to lower labor costs.
